Katie's
Diary
13 October
Katie's journey from classical diva to pop
chick continued in her vocal session with Carrie
today.
The flame-haired
Vocal Coach urged the classically trained teenager
to combine her strong 'chest' voice with her 'head'
voice to make the perfect pop sound.
"We need to work
on getting you more fluid across your breaking
point," she told Katie.
"You've been used
to using your head voice with your classical stuff,
and then your chest voice - which belts out - but
at the moment, it's never the twain shall meet. We
need to make sure they come together."
Easier said than
done, you might think, and so it proved. Though
Katie had no problems grasping just what was
required of her, putting it into action made for
some patient practising.
"You've got to
use your abdominal wall," Carrie insisted, "even if
you have to put your hands on your sides to
help."
And the Vocal
Coach was of the firm opinion it all boiled down to
confidence.
"You have so much
potential. You've just got to believe in yourself,"
the redhead told Katie. "I actually don't think you
are slow at learning, I think you don't have the
confidence."
Katie agreed the
issue had been bothering her. "I'm not going to get
stressed out about it anymore, 'cos I was getting
scared about learning," she admitted.
Being the
consummate pro, Katie soon got to grips with her
new role - much to the delight of
Carrie.
